Foraging behavior of fire ant Solenopsis saevissima (Smith) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Felis catus Linnaeus (Carnivora: Felidae) carcass

Solenopsis saevissima fire ants were found foraging in a Felis catus carcass over tissues an secretions present in holes and mucosa. The ants built a dirt-made physical structure around the carcass, which prevented necrophagous flies from laying eggs or larvae in the body. These observations are relevant to increasing knowledge on the role of this ant genus in the decaying process of other animal corpses, including humans

A patologia da normalidade: Erich Fromm e a crítica da cultura capitalista contemporânea

Neste artigo, procuro problematizar a crítica de Erich Fromm à cultura do capitalismo contemporâneo. Para tanto, faço uma releitura especialmente, mas não apenas, de uma de suas principais obras maduras, o livro Psicanálise da sociedade contemporânea (The sane society), no qual o autor sedimenta seu projeto analítico de uma “psicanálise humanista”. Na primeira parte o artigo reconstrói, através da ideia de “patologia da normalidade”, a crítica de Fromm aos fundamentos culturais do capitalismo contemporâneo. Na segunda parte, a reconstrução é levada adiante através dos conceitos de “caráter social” e “alienação”, de modo a compreender como o capitalismo tardio do século XX aprofunda, como nunca antes, uma cultura anti-humanista. Na conclusão, procuro argumentar como a obra de Fromm pode ser de grande valia para a compreensão dos problemas tanto individuais quanto coletivos da atualidade

Disponibilidade de N, P, K em Neossolo Regolítico cultivado com batata inglesa sob manejos agroecológicos.

The low natural fertility of the soils of the northeastern semi-arid region has caused a reduced productivity of the crops grown in the region, such as the English potato. In view of this scenario, the implementation of agroecological management systems has emerged as an alternative to favor the biocycling of nutrients and improve soil fertility. The work aimed to evaluate the availability of nutrients N, P and K in Regolitic Neossols grown with potatoes under agroecological management. Three producing municipalities were selected, Areial (07o 02 '52' 'S 35o 55' 51 '' O), Esperança (07o 01 '22' 'S 35o 51' 36 '' O) and Remígio (06o 54 '10' ' S 35o 50 '02' 'O) located in the Microregion of Agreste da Paraíba. In each municipality, five properties were chosen whose history was the cultivation of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.), with a different management system, namely: T1 = Bovine manure + Rock powder + Biofertilizer; T2 = Bovine manure + Biofertilizer; T3 = Cattle Dung; T4 = Goat manure; T5 = Bovine manure + Rock powder. Simple soil samples were collected at depths of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm in each study area, in the planting lines, in transect crossing the area, from the simple samples, composite samples were formed where the 10 samples were mixed each area separately, as well as each depth, with repetitions being made in duplicate. and taken to the Soil Organic Matter Laboratory of the Department of Soil and Rural Engineering of the Center for Agricultural Sciences-CCA / UFPB. The evaluated parameters were the levels of N, P and K the goat manure promoted a greater availability of the nutrient nitrogen; the association of bovine manure and rock powder, contributed to the greater availability of phosphorus and for the potassium nutrient, the application of bovine manure associated with rock powder and biofertilizer favored the increase of the levels in the Regolitic Neossol.A baixa fertilidade natural dos solos da região semiárida nordestina, tem provocado uma reduzida produtividade das culturas cultivadas na região, a exemplo da batata inglesa. Diante desse cenário, a implantação de sistemas de manejos agroecológicos têm surgido como alternativa para favorecer a biociclagem dos nutrientes e melhorar a fertilidade dos solos. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a disponibilidade dos nutrientes N, P e K em Neossolos Regolíticos cultivados com batata sob manejos agroecológicos. Foram selecionados três municípios produtores, Areial (07o 02’ 52’’ S 35o 55’ 51’’ O), Esperança (07o 01’ 22’’ S 35o 51’ 36’’ O) e Remígio (06o 54’ 10’’ S 35o 50’ 02’’ O) localizados na Microrregião do Agreste da Paraíba. Em cada município foram escolhidas cinco propriedades cujo o histórico era o cultivo de batata (Solanum tuberosum L.), com sistema de manejo diferenciados, a saber: T1 = Esterco bovino + Pó de rocha + Biofertilizante; T2 = Esterco bovino + Biofertilizante; T3 = Esterco Bovino; T4 = Esterco Caprino; T5 = Esterco bovino + Pó de rocha. Foram coletadas amostras simples de solo na profundidades de 0-20 cm e 20-40 cm em cada área de estudo, nas linhas de plantio, em transecto cruzando a área, a partir das amostras simples foram constituídas amostras compostas onde foram misturadas as 10 amostras simples de cada área em separado, como também de cada profundidade, sendo feitas repetições em duplicata e levadas para o Laboratório de Matéria Orgânica do Solo do Departamento de Solo e Engenharia Rural do Centro de Ciências Agrarias-CCA/UFPB. Os parâmetros avaliados foram os teores de N, P e K, o esterco caprino promoveu uma maior disponibilidade do nutriente nitrogênio; a associação de esterco bovino e pó de rocha, contribuiu com a maior disponibilidade de fósforo e para o nutriente potássio, a aplicação de esterco bovino associado ao pó de rocha e ao biofertilizante favoreceu o incremento dos teores no Neossolo Regolítico

Haunted Farm – the figuration of slavery in the novel “Til”, by José de Alencar

This essay aims at presenting the novel “Til”, by José de Alencar, going over its formal aspects, which are responsible for unveiling the historical substance on which it is based. Differences and continuities of the book in relation to the previous work of the author are discussed. By bringing the action to a slave-holding coffee farm during the Brazilian “Segundo Reinado” (Second Reign) and intending to figure all social classes involved within the farm’s world, Alencar points to the core of the whole system: the coffee production and the slave labour. Hence, the novel figures two poles, centre and periphery – or the “casa-grande” (Big House) and its surroundings –, which are confronted, thus projecting over the novel all kinds of ambiguities, and also accounting for the instability of the very structure of the novel. We aim at showing that the slavery is an essential element of the work, even if the mere reading of its plot does not point directly to this fact.O ensaio apresenta o romance Til, de José de Alencar, examinando-o em seus aspectos formais, que revelam a matéria histórica que o embasa. Discute-se as continuidades e as diferenças do livro em relação à obra anterior do romancista. Ao trazer a ação para uma fazenda de café escravista do Segundo Reinado, e propondo-se a figurar todas as camadas sociais envolvidas no mundo da fazenda, Alencar aponta para o núcleo de todo o sistema: o café e o trabalho escravo. Com isso, o romance figura dois polos, centro e periferia – ou a casa-grande e seus arredores –, que são postos em confronto, o que projeta sobre a obra ambiguidades de todos os tipos, além de responder pela instabilidade da própria estrutura do romance. Procura-se demonstrar que a escravidão é um dado essencial da obra, ainda que a simples leitura de seu enredo não aponte diretamente para isso

Entre a casa-grande e o mocambo: O Moleque Ricardo no ciclo da cana-de-açúcar de José Lins do Rego

O ensaio discute a inserção de O Moleque Ricardo, de 1935, no ciclo da cana-de-açúcar de José Lins do Rego. Defende-se a unidade dos cinco romances do ciclo, publicados entre 1932 e 1936, que figuram o momento de transitoriedade histórica em que foram escritos. A centralidade do tema do trabalho no romance de 1935 ilumina a importância desse tema em todo o ciclo, que mostra-se afinado aos debates nacionais em pauta na década de 1930. Em um segundo momento, caracteriza-se a ambiguidade do ponto de vista narrativo, devida à coexistência de proximidade e distância em relação aos trabalhadores, personagens centrais do romance.The essay discusses the inclusion of José Lins do Rego’s Moleque Ricardo, published in 1935, in the author’s sugarcane cycle. The paper develops an argument for the unity of the cycle’s five novels, published between 1932 and 1936, which outline the moment of historical transience in which they were written. The centrality of the theme of work in the 1935 novel highlights the importance of this issue throughout the whole cycle, which proves to be in tune with national debates in the 1930s. A second moment in the essay characterizes the ambiguity of the point-of-view, a result of the coexistence of proximity and distance in relation to the workers, central characters in the novel
